The AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED lens features Nikon`s Extra Low Dispersion (ED) glass, Silent Wave Motor (SWM) and enhanced Vibration Reduction (VRII) to ensure the best images. Optics have also been perfected for use with both Nikon DX format digital and 35mm film SLR cameras. The Zoom-Nikkor lens offers 70-300mm (4.3x) zoom performance, and is suitable for various telephoto shooting opportunities, particularly in sports, nature and wildlife photography. When used with a Nikon DX format digital SLR, the picture angle is equivalent to what would be experienced with a 105-450mm lens on a 35mm. SLR Advanced Nikon engineering has given rise to a compact lightweight lens design that offers outstanding optical performance and excellent handling characteristics. The new Nikon Vibration Reduction (VRII) system enables users to take substantially sharper handheld pictures at slower shutter speeds approximately 4 stops slower* than would otherwise be possible. Bang for the buck!

Author's Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: extreme optical quality, excellent construction, includes case and integrated lens hood

Cons: excellent price point vs its bigger brother the F/2.8...but still expensive. Lens collar

Bottom Line:
It may be an F/4 but you save $4000! and get awesome performance. It works fantastically well with Nikon teleconverters. Read More

Didn't expect a lot, but got even less

Author's Rating: 2/5 stars

Pros: Light, inexpensive, relatively small

Cons: Very poor AF (constantly hunts), lots of chromatic aberration

Bottom Line:
This lens let me down. The images are not what you would expect from a ED glass and the autofocus system is poor. Read More

Not worth the money at all

Author's Rating: 2/5 stars

Pros: Better built than other 70-300 models at the moment.

Cons: Silly price for what you get. NO macro mode.

Bottom Line:
If you must have 300mm, buy the Sigma version. If 200mm will do, the Nikon 28-200G is a gem for 300.00. Read More
